FAQ On Welding

1. What is welding?

A welder is the equipment used to weld. Welding is the process of joining two materials such as aluminium, steel, plastic, brass, stainless steel or polymer and fusing them together. Different welders use different kinds of energy sources can such as; gas, a laser, flame, an electric arc, friction, an electron beam, or ultra sound.

2. What are the different types of welding?
Welders do not only use different energy sources but they also use different processes of welding, like smaw or shield metal arc welding, mig welding or tig welding. A smaw or shield metal arc welding is used for welding cast iron, steel, and stainless steel. MIG welding stands for metal inert gas welding. The MIG welding machine is used for joining aluminium with other non-ferrous metals and to join many types of alloys and metals. Last but not least, TIG welding stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding. This welding machine is used for reactive metals like magnesium and aluminium which are joined together with this process.

3. How do you know which type of welding to use?

Figuring out which type of welding machine to use to fuse two types of materials is the first step. The second step is identifying what purpose it is going to be used for. Next identify the type of welding machine, whether it is portable, the power supply needed and finally what other tools and accessories might be needed with A welder is the equipment used to weld.
